Senior Burnout

Senior year is supposed to be that victory lap, right? These last 2  and a half months will feel as if they are dragging us until the end. With the inclusion of snow days, upcoming spring break students have lacked in getting enough sleep and most students start to prioritize school.

After hard work and determination through years of homework, testing, and figuring out future college and FAFSA. You’re finally at the finish line But for so many of us, it feels more like we’re running out of our best potential and energy. It’s like, we’ve given it our all, and now that the end is so close we have decreased in determination. This isn’t just about being lazy or slacking off, it’s a real burnout that hits you hard, making it tough to care about anything school-related anymore.

High school students have been told for years that high school is the most important thing, that every grade and every test counts towards our future. But after a while, it just becomes too much, especially when you’re already accepted into college or have your plans lined up, it’s hard to keep pushing yourself for something that feels like it doesn’t matter as much anymore. The classes start to feel pointless towards the end of the year so you start drifting.

The effects of senioritis can come down to grades slipping, and you start missing deadlines for your assignments, but it’s more than just grades and turning l in your work it’s also about stress levels and how they start to increase due to the importance of wanting to be independent and graduate. Anxiety kicks in, and it’s easy to feel down and unmotivated. It’s like you’re stuck in this loop of not caring, which makes things worse, and it’s hard to break free. We need to start talking about this and find ways to deal with it, so senior year doesn’t completely drain us before we even get to graduation.
