Around this time of year everyone always wonders what the top albums of the year are.
Spotify Wrapped just came out so many Pinckney Students are curious what the overall biggest albums of the year are. Well I’m here to answer your desperately needed questions.
First lets go by genres many students wonder what the top rap albums of the year are.
Leading the rap genre with streams this year we have Kendrick Lamar’s 6th studio album “GNX” Kendrick Lamar’s album grossed over 3 billion streams since it was released, making it one of the fastest growing rap albums in 2025.
Other rap albums this year that grossed over 1 billion streams include “MUSIC” by Playboi Carti (1.7 Billion), “CHROMAKOPIA” By Tyler, The Creator (1.3 Billion).
But rap isn’t the only genre in the world, R&B was the 2nd most popular genre in 2025, we got many great albums from artists such as The Weeknd, Kali Uchis, and Giveon, The Weeknd’s 6th studio album dropped called “Hurry Up Tomorrow” grossed well over 3 billion streams since release, the album accumulated 57 million streams on its first day and 171.5 million streams on its first week, the biggest song on the album was “Timeless” produced by Mike Dean, Pharrell Williams and Ojivolta, this massive hit of a song featuring Playboi Carti collected about 10 million streams the first day released solidifying itself as one of the biggest R&B albums of all time.
With such a massive year for music that leaves many people wondering what 2026 holds for these two massive genres, we can only hope we get music this good next year and the years after that.
But I guess we will have to wait and see what 2026 holds for the future of music.
